ImplantsDo you have loose dentures or missing teeth?
Dental implants are the most effective way to replace your missing teeth and return your gums, teeth and smile to their best!
Loose dentures can be attached to dental implants to make your dentures stable and firm. Dental implants can enhance your smile, improve your chewing ability, and prevent the pain of dentures rubbing against the gums.
When replacing missing teeth dental implants are total tooth replacements. Implants may replace multple teeth or just one. Teeth they cannot be saved from decay or infection may be replace by an implant. Dental implants in many cases are the answer for any teeth that need to be entirely replaced!
An implant itself is the titanium post which acts as a replacement root sitting in the jaw, like the root of a tooth. Dental implants are a very similar shape to that of a natural tooth's root. An attachment inside which allows the top of the tooth to screw firmly into them, recreating a natural looking, healthy tooth.
To find out more about dental implants, please call our Treatment Co-ordinator Jude McNally, she can assist with your questions, and will find a suitable Dental Implant Consultation appointment with Dr Harris who will be able to assess your situation and make recommendations for different treatment options.

The Wand
Patient comfort during procedures is paramount to all the team at Harris Dental Boutique. The Wand is a small lightweight handpiece that resembles a pen. The computer controlled system allows for an even-flow delivery of anaesthetic in a very comfortable, non-threatening manner.
Myomonitor - Neuromuscular Dentistry
The Myomonitor is a battery operated electrical muscle stimulator. Delivered through adhesive patch electrodes attached over nerves that control specific muscle groups. This will allow your muscles to overcome their programming and go to a relaxed state. Now that the muscles are relaxed, Dr Harris will confirm and record the relaxed position of your jaw.
K7 - Computerised Scanning and Jaw Tracking
This computerised technology provides very detailed information about the status of your muscles and joints. Test allows your dentist to measure and study the pattern of the jaw opening and closing trhough it's full range of motion. Electromyopraphy (EMG) tests provide information on the activity of key muscles that control the jaw during various functions as will as at rest.
Preventive
Strongly focussing on the philosophy of early intervention and minimal interference, is an intrinsic part of preventive dentistry. By instilling in our patients the importance of good oral hygiene and regular preventative care appointments with our hygienist, we can detect and treat potential concerns.
Our dental hygienist will recommend a particular course of treatment to address any concerns that you have and will advise you on the most effective ways to clean your teeth and gums to restore your mouth to its optimal health.
Neuromuscular Treatments
Neuromuscular dentistry takes into considerations the status and function for the muscles that control your jaw position, swallowing and chewing. Using computerised equipment the measurements and patterns of your jaw opening and closing and its full range of motions is monitored in three dimensions. The computer measures the activity of the key muscles that control your jaw at rest and in function. The results will assist Dr Harris in advising you on the best possible treatment to relieve your symptoms

Missing Teeth
Replacing one or more missing teeth is important, for reasons other than recapturing your smile, it is also vital for maintaining total oral health. Having one or more missing teeth can contribute significantly to other oral health concerns.
These include jawbone deterioration and loss of facial muscle elasticity. Your teeth on either side of the space may move, affecting your bite. This may make it difficult to clean your teeth and may lead to jaw misalignment. People can also experience embarrassment and feel self-conscious about their missing teeth. The most popular options for replacing missing teeth are;
Bridges
A bridge consists of a replacement tooth or teeth attached to porcelain crowns on each side. The replacement tooth looks and functions just like a natural tooth. The bridge is cemented to the teeth adjacent to the space. Bridges are easy to maintain, a regular preventive care visit to see our hygienist for an examination and cleaning is recommended.

Endodontics
Endodontics means “inside the tooth” and is more commonly known as Root Canal Therapy. Infection, caused by tooth decay or a crack in your tooth is the most common cause your tooth may require an endodontic procedure.
The primary objective of root canal therapy is to save and restore a tooth, which would otherwise require extraction. Root canal therapy involves carefully removing all the bad bacteria and infection from each root canal inside your tooth (some teeth have up to 4 canals). Root canal therapy is a timely experience and is avoidable with regular preventive care examinations.
Restorations
White composite restorations are best used on small cavities when there is plenty of tooth structure to protect the restoration. Composite resin looks similar to your natural tooth colour and can often be used on front teeth, as the restorations are usually smaller and the biting loads lighter.
It is sometimes used as a temporary measure to help stabilise the teeth until something stronger can be placed on the tooth. Composite resin is one alternative to the old unsightly metal amalgam fillings.
